Theres the good the bad and the ugly when it comes to sacrificial anti graffiti coating. Sacrificial? Removable? Reversible? All the same thing basically, after application, the coating lies there on your wall, or vertical surface. A good coating should be proven to be, invisible and imperceptible to the touch. Along comes Mr/ Ms Graffiti and sprays the wall.
All you have to do is hot wash off the paint and hey presto, a clean wall as if nothing ever happened. You then have to reapply the coating as it sacrificed itself to remove the paint.
So what should you look for in a good anti graffiti coating?
1) Is wax based or is it all natural. Why? Because wax based coatings are made mainly of some pretty heavy duty petrochemicals. When you wash your wall down these end up in your drains. Councils dont like it and the flora and fauna that come in contact with that contaminated water certainly wont thank you for it. All natural systems such as PSS20 are completely safe because they are based on plant ingredients i.e. polysaccharides.
2) Is the coating invisible? Many systems leave a two tone glossy look especially wax based / chemical based systems.
3) Is it really effective? PSS20 was recently tested at the Olympic village in London and it flew the test. Many sacrificial systems are only partially effective.
Moral of the story? Use the systems that can prove their claims Ask for their independent tests!
Another question you may ask is - is it a good brick sealer? Well a sacrificial system would be good for a vertical surface as the surface would not be walked upon, but for a horizontal surface you would probably be looking at a non-sacrificial coating system. The reason for this is that a sacrificial coating can be worn down when it comes into contact with shoes as this is necessary when the surface protection needs to be removed in the case of a graffiti attack. A brick has a very porous surface so the sacrificial system would benefit the brick in that it would repel water, dirt algae, moss etc from penetrating its surface and causing it to break up.
So Ill leave you with the option.... Sacrificial or Non - Sacrificial? Weigh up your options based on this information, at the end of the day... YOU decide.
