Following our completion of a group of websites for TGN Group, we have interviewed the Director Ben Truppin about web design in general and their plans for their new business website. 1. Can you tell us a little about TGN and the services you offer? The Ginger Network is a fresh, new group of businesses that amalgamates a variety of skills and professions to offer great value products and services. Currently we offer a creative design and marketing agency (TGN Creative), a professional blog writing service and a sports coaching business. We are aiming to expand our operations to include a variety of other businesses over the next 12-18 months. 2. Do you feel that the website is helpful for both existing/prospective clients? And why? In the modern world, a website is a vital tool to establish and maintain your professional credibility. In a way it is like being in the yellow pages was 20 years ago, in that if you dont have a website potential customers are immediately cautious that you are not going to provide them with a professional service. For the creative design and marketing business, a website is an absolute must, as this showcases the work that we are able to offer to potential clients. The opportunity to review the web creative work we do for ourselves positions us well with these potential clients. 3. Have you got any tips for businesses that are looking to have a new websites? My advice would be to complete a little bit of background research before you start. For instance, what type of organization are you? Who are your customers and competitors? Once you are clear on this, you can search the net to see the web presence that your competitors have. Next its to the drawing board. I would say that creating a website has 6 steps: 1. Plan your site-map. Consider the web pages you need, how these links with each other and a summary of the information that will be included on each page 2. Consider the site design. This may involve engaging with a creative business (such as TGN Creative) or a design expert within your circle of friends! To come up with something that represents your business well, is suitably professional for your industry and is easy to use and navigate. 3. Talk to people. What do your friends and their friends think that you should have on your website? Its all very well creating a website on your own, but at the end of the day it is other people who you need to convince to buy your product or service, so their opinions do really count! 4. Start writing quality content. Many people confuse quality with quantity and this can get you into trouble. So called white space can be very valuable on a website, to allow images or site design to enhance the visual quality of what customers see 5. Consider the technical development. There are a variety of internet templates that are available to create websites and these may be suitable if you wish to provide a basic information offering. However, remember that your website is the opportunity for you to showcase your product or service and having a site developed that exactly fits your requirements (and your visual design) will help convey an impression of quality and hopefully lead to more business in the long run! 6. Test it! Once built, dont immediately launch with a fanfare and free give-aways! Check that all the numbers you have placed on the site are up and operational. Check that you havent got any silly spelling or grammatical mistakes (I couldnt resist!) and that you have all of the legal and regulatory information that is required for your industry. Once completed, youre good to launch and get on with developing your business. However, remember that a website is a living breathing entity and it may be that information needs refreshing from time to time or new industry developments need to be reflected. Therefore, always take time out in your schedule to review what is there and if a refresh would be of benefit. 4. How was your experience is working with the James Blake Team? Would you use James Blake again? In my experience, James Blake offered a professional and quality service to The Ginger Network. The team was keen to understand my requirements and use this to develop a quality website that matched my expectations. Throughout the development process the team kept in contact with me to ensure that I was aware of the build and test progress, which meant that I could focus on other areas of business start up. As one of my businesses is creative design and marketing, I am asked to create website designs by customers. I would not hesitate to recommend James Blake for the technical development of these sites in the future as I know the service they receive would be exemplary.
