At a VoIP Q&A session in Berlin, long time internet telephony champion Nadahl Shocair was asked about Skype and answered that in his opinion Skype finally got it right by bridging its amazing service into devices such as the iPhone and SIP IP-PBXs and emphasized that the company is now ripe to realize a serious return on these developments.
Nadahl Shocair stated, I am an early adopter of Skype and in 2005, my initial criticism was over Skypes valuation by the past eBay Board and no more and this was proven correct as eBay had to write off part of that investment and then I continued to be critically frustrated regarding Skypes slow move into device and PBX system integration to serve in over half a million enterprise IP-PBXs. Yes, the consumer sector is fine but you follow the money in both enterprise communications and mobility offerings to complete the strategic circle and those curved lines finally connect.
Nadahl Shocair was asked if he used Skype, I registered for Skype in 2004 and I am a Skype fan and will continue to hammer the point that the key to Skypes fortunes is integration, integration, integration by leveraging their brand equity and give their fan base more to cheer about as the value proposition was and is still amazing. With a few more moves like this, I expect Skype will soon go into the stratosphere not in just downloads but riding on positive cash-flow.
Nadahl was asked what would he do to advise Skype and answered that some work needs to be done to reposition Skype in the minds of enterprise customers, IT managers and integrators but this could be solved over a period of time with an appropriate communications strategy.
Nadahl Shocair also commented on Boomtel stating that two events happened in 2008 one being the financial crisis making finding further funding impossible and secondly Skypes logical entry into SIP PBX integration. I do not see this as all bad, the VoIP industry turmoil is similar to all other infant industries of times past. It is the factory of exciting ideas that will shape our future. Look at automobile innovator Preston Tucker who invented the seat-belt, the steering controlled headlamp, the straight 6 engine and the fast moving armoured personnel carrier which are all features of vehicles of today.
